Three reasons to have a pre-wedding photography session

Engagement sessions, pre-wedding shoots, or however else it’s phrased, are quite often seen as a nice-to-have when wedding planning. But most people I speak to often don’t see the point in them, let alone the value in them. So here’s the golden question: what is the value of an engagement session?

1.

I am a big advocate for documenting life and its milestones. Being engaged is one of the most exciting times in a couples lives, however so often it’s spent worrying or stressing about planning, money and the pressures of hosting a wedding. An engagement session is a great way to document a time of your life and celebrate it for what it is, away from the pressures – a time to celebrate the love and commitment you both have for one another.

2.

I know I’m a photographer myself, but I’ll be the first to admit that for the average person, being in front of the camera can feel extremely uncomfortable, awkward, and unnatural. The first thing I tell my couples however, is that my job is to give them the space and freedom to have fun and enjoy being in front of the camera. An engagement session is a great way to break that ice and get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. You’ll practice the poses and prompts that will be given on your wedding day and understand how you can have real connection with each other through authentic moments. No stiff smiles at the camera to be seen!

3.

The last one is a practical one: you can use them! If you’re booked in with enough time, you can use the photos from your session on save the dates, invites, your wedding website, the list goes on! They’re high-quality, up to date, beautiful images which exude your personality and really sets the tone for your wedding day.

Engagement sessions really hold so much value! Not only are they great ways to get to know your photographer and get comfortable in front of their camera, but they’re precious ways to document this stage of life, and celebrate it away from the stresses of wedding planning.
