Thinking of eloping to Edinburgh? Here’s where to start.

Edinburgh is every city-loving, romantic soul’s dream for a beautiful elopement. Whether it’s the historic architecture, quiet lanes, busy landmarks or quieter corners of nature, Edinburgh has it all. If you’re considering eloping, here’s some fantastic must-see spots to explore for your photographs during your Edinburgh elopement.

Dean Village

Arriving at Dean Village feels like taking a step back in time. The houses and buildings are gorgeous, colourful and old-timey. The Water of Leith runs right through it, and there are quaint wee bridges to cross which give new and different perspectives. This spot is so romantic, but can get a wee bit busy at the height of the day, so an early visit is a must!

Stockbridge

Circus Lane in Stockbridge is arguably one of the most quaint streets in Edinburgh, mostly thanks to it’s colourful houses, cobbled street, hanging baskets full to the brim of flowers and greenery. I would really recommend visiting this spot first thing in the morning if possible – otherwise it will be very busy!

The Royal Mile

The Royal Mile has so many great spots for portraits all within walking distances of each other. It’s teeming with history, and is a great base point where you can explore side streets (known as closes) and landmarks along the way. The image on the right is taken right outside Edinburgh City Chambers, where you can legally tie the knot in a range of different ceremony rooms!

Victoria Street

Victoria Street is another classic Edinburgh spot. It’s colourful, historic and a super fun backdrop for portraits. Situated just a five minute walk from the Royal Mile, it’s easily reachable by foot.

Grassmarket

The Grassmarket is located at the bottom of Victoria Street. It sits snugly beneath the imposing Edinburgh Castle, and has bundles of character. It has your classic Edinburgh Old Town architecture, but with a hint of modernity. Nearby landmarks include Armchair Books and Mary’s Milkbar!

The Vennel

The Vennel is a super romantic, beautiful spot with arguably one of the best views of the castle. It’s charming and old-timey while offering a classic Edinburgh feel that will last. Another popular spot so this is best visited first thing in the morning if possible!

Edinburgh has so many versatile locations to choose from when considering your elopement route. There really is something for everyone – whether you’re looking for something more urban, easily accessible nature, or a mix of the two! If you’d like more in-detail advice, I’d love to help!
